How to Style a Cable Knit Dress | Stylish Monday Link-Up

Today I’m showing you how to style a cable knit dress. I’m so into neutral tones and winter whites this year, and both of today’s dresses reflect that. It’s also time once again for a Stylish Monday Link-Up party, and this month’s theme is all about styling cozy knits, so my dress is right on cue! From cable knit to crochet to luxuriously soft loungewear and dresses, there’s a wide variety of interpretations of this month’s theme. Stylish Monday features bloggers and influencers from around the world, so it’s always interesting to see how each lady styles the current trends. Be sure to pop into the link-up party at the bottom of the post for more great content, and to add your own links!

How To Style Cozy Knits | My Cable Knit Sweater Dresses

Have you ever liked something so much that you found yourself buying similar pieces? Well, each of these sweater dresses are a prime example of that! I first saw the camel version in my Stitch Fix app several weeks ago, and I just had to have it. Stitch Fix has a cool feature now that allows you to purchase recommended items. The feed changes almost daily, and new pieces are added daily (and scooped up almost as quickly). I wasn’t sure how it would fit, but when it arrived I fell in love! I think the dresses fit this month’s Stylish Monday theme to a tee.

How to Style a Cable Knit Dress

I styled this tan Love Ellie brand cable knit dress with a beautiful pair of earrings (better look at the earrings below) in the same neutral color tones (also from Stitch Fix) and my tried and true Kendra Scott necklace. I added knee-high boots to complete the look. I wasn’t sure how this dress would look on my pear shape, but I found it to be quite forgiving. STYLE TIP:  Look for a chunky knit like this one if you want to hide a few details! The cables and texture will add visual interest too and will help keep the focus off of any ‘secrets’ you don’t care to divulge.

And since I loved that dress so much, I went ahead and ordered this one! The winter white color is perfectly on-trend right now and works so well with a neutral color palette, or as a base for something with a bit more color. I’ve styled the dress two ways. Look one features a plaid scarf, and look two (see above) features a long tortoise chain detail necklace. It was chilly when I took these photos, so the turtleneck and scarf were comforting and warm! I styled the dress with the same tan boots, but this dress would look super cute with a pair of ivory booties that are everywhere this winter.

Suzanne & Michele

Michele – On Instagram as Seechele_styles – Kicking knits up a notch in my knit sustainable cream boots with a thrifted cream knit ribbed turtleneck.

Suzanne – Ask Suzanne Bell – I finally bought a Shacket, and better yet, she’s a sweater! Truly, one of the most versatile pieces I’ve bought all season, I’ve found this multi-functioning knit piece can be worn as a jacket, sweater, tunic, or layering piece – how fab is that? And since today’s post is all about knits, I thought I’d show you a few ways I’ve styled this neutral-colored plaid wonder this past week.

Amy & Julie

Amy – Amy’s Creative Pursuits –  Living in a cold climate, I survive the winters in cozy knits like this thick cowl neck sweater and warm leggings.

Julie – Fashion Trends and Friends and Instagram FashionTandF –  I’m loving all the knitwear sets that are totally on-trend for the winter!  Think elevated sweatsuit – sweater material joggers and a cute matching sweater top!  The sets are so comfy, cozy, and easily split up to be styled with other pieces!  Don’t you love having lots of styling options?!  This is the perfect trend for winters in Illinois!

Emma & Nicole

Emma – The Style Splash – I probably spend half the year in knitwear of some kind so I have acquired quite a collection over the years. This bright orange sweater with frill detailing is hard to beat though – I love the colour, plus it’s super soft and cosy. It’s great to pair with another bright hue or team with neutrals.

Nicole – High Latitude Style – I have loved knit jumpers all my life. My late mom knitted many of them when I was a kid. I remember a bottle green one with white shoulder section and orange embellishments, a citrus A-line, and a matching skirt and cardigan ensemble in red with green and black stripes. She used acrylic yarn and created super soft, cozy pieces. Her girlfriend, however, knitted wool sweaters. They were so itchy.

Shelbee & Nancy

Shelbee – Shelbee on the Edge – This leopard coatigan is one of my favorite knit pieces that I own. I wear it literally all fall and winter long with all sorts of different outfits. Stop by my blog to see what I have styled underneath…hint…it’s more knits!

Nancy –  Nancy’s Fashion Style – Knit dresses! Can’t do without in winter, they are just so cozy and warm. This one is a bit older but I love to wear it, especially with sneakers. Can it get any more comfortable?

Joy & Lucy

Joy –   Joyous Styling    Cozy knits are so yummy in the colder temperatures, and this sweater knit skirt is on sale for under 23.00 dollars, I love it so much I have it in Ivory.

Lucy – Lucy Bertoldi.com  Loving how this cute crochet cardi ties together the whole jumpsuit look.  Making it feel cozy and fun- for the perfect casual-chic styling!

  1. Andy, these dresses are so cute and they look amazing on you! I love the winter whites and winter neutrals, too. Your boots are fabulous as well. I have a few sweater dresses but I never like the way they look on me. I usually end up having to belt mine to give myself some waist definition. Stay warm and fabulous, my friend!

    1. Thank you Shelbee. I feel like I reached out of my comfort zone a bit with this dress, but you never know if you’ll like something until you try it! I sure enjoy collaborating with you!

  2. I would kill for a sweater dress like yours. I’m so jealous. I will have check my Stitch Fix app. I love that you can purchase whatever you want now instead of ordering an entire Fix. I’ve been wanting a sweater dress for years but every one I’ve tried is just so darn clingy. These both look perfect.

    1. Hi Amy! This dress is very popular, thanks to the facebook group. I feel like I was super lucky to find it in my Freestyle shop! I’m popping over to check out your post too.

  3. Adding light boots makes this knit dress outfit so feminine and elegant. Great styling of a posh casual cozy winter outfit. The necklace gives a touch of additional interest without distracting from the look.

    1. Thank you Julie! I sure did enjoy this collaboration! I look forward to seeing what all the gals are wearing each month, don’t you?

    1. Thanks so much! It’s so cozy and warm, so I’m hoping I’ll have an opportunity or two to wear it down here!
