I’m featuring a few things I just got from Stitch Fix, along with a few tried and true basics from my closet. Use this post as a tool in your toolbox as you plan out your fall and winter wardrobe. As always, I’m conscious of styling my pear shape, but I’m confident that these ideas will work for any body type!

Five Essential Pieces for Fall
So, what do I mean by essential pieces? Think of them as building blocks for the rest of your closet. Things you’ll be able to mix and match to your heart’s content, and that will play well with others. I suggest that you use these ideas, but take into account your own body type, and what you are comfortable wearing. Ready? Let’s go!
A Crisp White Shirt

I shared in THIS POST several ways to wear this workhorse of a classic wardrobe. The white shirt I’m showing you today is a recent purchase from Chico’s and features a subtle diamond texture and incredible stretch and comfort. It’s a bit more refined than the shirt in my previous post, but can still be dressed up or down. My best friend is such a believer in the power of the white shirt that she has an entire section of her closet dedicated to them. (I’m looking at you, Robin!) She never met a white shirt she didn’t like!
A Beautiful Blouse

I’m a huge fan of leopard print, so that’s what I’m styling here today, but you do you! Into florals? Or graphic prints? Maybe you’re into different animal prints like zebra or snake…whatever you prefer, find a blouse in that pattern, and wear it proudly! I am a huge fan of animal prints for fall, so this leopard number from Vince Camuto is just the ticket. This top was also in my Stitch Fix box, and I was tickled to receive it. I’ll be wearing it with black trousers for work, and can also put it back with a pencil skirt, tights and boots. I can throw it on with jeans and booties as I did here and accessorize it with a jacket or sweater. I’ll probably wear it with a pair of red trousers for the holidays. For more about styling leopard and red together read THIS POST. So many options!
A Great Pair of Denim Jeans

Jeans are having a moment right now. A very conflicted moment, actually, and it can be darn well overwhelming! With styles ranging from skinny to wide leg to straight leg to boot cut, and features like distressing, acid washing (yes, really!), and all kinds of embellishments, it’s enough to confuse any fashionista. My advice? Stick to the silhouette and style that fits YOU. I’ll admit that I’ve purchased a couple of the newer straight-leg jeans, and quite frankly, I just don’t like them on me. They don’t do a thing for my pear shape and make me feel downright frumpy. Just give this gal a pair of skinnies or boot-cuts and I’m a happy camper. The pair I’m styling today was in my latest Stitch Fix box, have a higher rise, have tons of stretch, and make my legs look longer. Winning!
A Versatile Blazer or Jacket

I’ve recently added two jackets to my fall and winter wardrobe. One is a cute little moto jacket (I’ll be sharing it on insta later on) and the other is this classic black blazer. Did you know that blazers don’t have to go to work? They can go out on dates and even go shopping with you! Yep, throw a black blazer over almost anything, and watch the magic happen. I’ve styled it here with both the white top and the leopard blouse, but you can easily style it with a plain white t-shirt or even a graphic tee.
A Long Cardigan

I recently shared my love for the long cardigan in this Instagram post. This silhouette just works for me! The longer length skims over my hips and things and makes me feel taller and leaner. I found this black one during the Nordstrom Sale because it is so similar to the pink one I purchased there several years ago. You can style a long cardigan like this one over any style of jeans. I’ve worn mine with my skinnies, crops, and bootcuts. I mean, when it works, it works! Many times, when I feel like an outfit isn’t quite right, I’ll just throw on a cardigan and boom! Outfit complete.
