HI! I’m showing you three ways to style a denim shirt today. You probably have one or two of these bad boys hanging in your closet right now. If not, then the denim or chambray shirt is one of those staples you should have in your wardrobe line-up. But do you know just how versatile it can be? A classic chambray shirt can be dressed up or down, worn to work, or thrown over leggings for fun. I had fun pulling this post together, so let’s go!

Okay, I just took inventory and I have three denim/chambray shirts in the closet. Yep! Sure do! One is a tunic, the other two are standard denim shirts in different washes. The nice thing about a denim shirt is that you do NOT have to break the bank on them. I’ve even noticed a few denim shackets out there, which combine the best of the denim jacket world with the denim shirt world and turns it into a comfy oversized game changer!
Three Ways to Style a Denim Shirt

Look One: With a Neutral Colored Outfit
Get out of the denim and black rut! Seriously. I had to think way out of my comfort zone when I pulled this outfit together. My brain just immediately goes to the tried and true, never fail (scroll down to see) black and denim pairing. They go together like peanut butter and jelly! But I recently jumped on the white bootie trend, and bought these cute white booties. I needed to find a way to wear them that suited my personal style, and was also office-friendly. So I styled the booties with my natural colored denim jeans and the chambray shirt. To keep things neutral, I popped a tan sweater over the shirt. And then, to dress things up a bit, I threw on some pearls. I love the subtle pop of blue color in my otherwise neutral outfit, and I think the pearls are just a fun way to kick it up a notch.
Look Two: With a Patterened Outfit

This look is from last year. Again, I wanted to get out of a style rut, as I usually wear these pants with a red top (which looks fab, by the way), but I just wanted to try something different. So I threw the longer-length tunic over the patterned pants and added leopard shoes for a little pattern mixing. I did pearls here too. I think the denim tunic calms things down a bit, what with all the pattern mixing, and keeps my outfit balanced.
Look Three: Casual Leggings Outfit

As I was scrolling through my past photos to find three ways to style a denim shirt, I came upon this pic taken last year. I’ve styled the tunic with leggings and a cami here. I prefer tunic-length tops with leggings and think this looks best with my pear shape. I wanna cover up all that junk in my trunk y’all! Long over lean is a tried and true recipe for a more flattering look for us pear shape girls. Read HERE for more of my tips and tricks for dressing a pear shape.

Great tips, Andy. I do love wearing denim shirts! A staple for me!
Loved all three on you! I don’t have a denim shirt, but I have a denim dress. I’ve only worn it with black leggings and booties, but if you have any other ideas, I’d love to hear/see them!
Hi! If your dress is a button up style, try wearing it open like a coat. I’ve done that with a similar dress and it was a fun look.
Oh that’s a good idea, but it’s not a button up 😕
