How to Style a Simple White Shirt

You just can’t beat the understated simplicity of a good white shirt, and today I’m going to show a couple of my favorite ways to style one. I recently found this perfectly relaxed boyfriend-style white shirt at Target, and I’m in love with the way it fits AND the way it looks. I’m so excited to show you a couple of ways that I styled the shirt with my denim jeans. Take a peek, and see where I found the perfect white shirt!

I’ve always struggled with buttondown type shirts because I’m pear-shaped. (Read more about styling a pear shape HERE and HERE.) Tops that don’t overwhelm me and look sloppy on my shoulders tend to fit too tightly around my hip area. And tops that are loose enough downstairs look ridiculously huge on my shoulder area! It’s a lose-lose situation for me! Or at least it was!

Enter the boyfriend style shirt!

This boyfriend style buttondown shirt by Universal Thread from Target is seriously the best thing since sliced bread. It drapes perfectly and is amazingly soft. Another plus – it’s not see-through at all! I’ve also washed it a couple of times, hung it to dry, and all it needed was a little steaming. It’s meant to look and feel relaxed and it does! Here are a couple of ways I styled this beautifully versatile top.

White Shirt – Dressed Down

The simplest look – I just threw the top on with my favorite Denizen jeans (also from Target, seriously, I want every pair, they’re that good!) added a pair of white Converse sneakers and I’m good to go! Cute, comfy, and classic. This outfit feels very “me”!

I styled the shirt with a darker pair of jeans for a dressier look and added these gorgeous snake print mules to the mix. Gold chain necklaces are all the rage now, so I layered several with the shirt to glam it up a bit. I also added a cute leopard clutch just for fun. Shop a similar clutch HERE.
