My Easy Saturday Summer Makeup Look

So here’s the deal y’all. I love makeup. I love blush and eyeshadow and eyeliner and lipstick and lipgloss. Oh how I love me some lip gloss! I really love mascara, though I’m sometimes frustrated with it. (What’s up the new spider eyes mascara trend anyway?) But, as much as I love  cosmetics, my style is more “girl next door” (okay, midlife lady next door) than glammed up diva. I’m more of a Doris Day than a Marilyn Monroe! Though not a cosmetic/makeup expert, I’m going to bravely share my easy Saturday summer makeup routine with you. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy seeing some of the products I use, and might even be inspired to try something new! And fair warning: these are unretouched photos of the real me ahead! So here goes!

Step 1: Prep & Foundation

This goes without saying, doesn’t it? I use Rodan and Fields skin care exclusively, because they work, and because they’re the best. Redefine is my regimen of choice. I use Triple Defense Treatment every single morning. With an spf of 30, my skin is both protected and treated to fight the visible signs of aging. (aka- evidence of my teen summers spent laying out all day in the sun slathered in baby oil and iodine!) My skin just drinks it up!

Before Pic - Radiant Defense

As I mentioned in this blog post I use Radiant Defense on a daily basis during the summer season. It’s lightweight, and provides a nice even coverage, hiding imperfections in my skin while correcting them! It’s super lightweight, but has amazing coverage. Here’s a side by side before and after for you:

Step 2: Concealer & Coffee!

I have to use concealer, and Tarte Shape Tape does a fabulous job covering my dark circles. As we get older, our skin gets thinner, and those dark circles appear even more darker. This magical concealer covers those circles without settling into those tiny lines around my eyes, and stays in place all day long. I love it! A tiny bit goes a very long way. I applied two tiny dots in the photo below and then smoothed it into my undereye area with the brush.

Step 3: Get Glowing!

This Mac Blush in “Peachy Keen” is my Saturday pop of color. Richly pigmented it looks natural, and lasts all day. I’ve also used Nars blush in “Orgasm”. Both of these are my go-tos for a glowing hint of color.

Also mentioned in this blog post, I’m officially addicted to this  Diorskin Luminizer. It adds a healthy glow to my skin without being glittery or sparkly. It’s voodoo magic y’all! I lightly dust it on the apples of my cheeks and add a bit above the brows.

Step 4: The Eyes Have It!

I try to just use a “one and done” product and not overthink it, usually a cream or cream pencil eye shadow. The beauty of these products is that you can also use them as eyeshadow primers. Sometimes I put a little cream highlighter under my brows, and in the corners of my eyes, to brighten things up a bit. Then, I just lightly line the lids with a steely blue eye pencil. I just can’t skip this step, because I wear glasses and my eyes just disappear if I don’t give them a bit of definition.

I’m always on the lookout for a mascara that will thicken my lashes without giving me that goofy spider eye look that seems to be all the rage. I just discovered this mascara from Benefit, and let’s face it, Benefit has the market covered in the mascara territory! I’ve also been happy with MAC and L’oreal brand mascaras.

Step 5: Kiss Kiss!

L’oreal Infallible in Unending Kiss is my go-to neutral lip color, and it’s perfect for Saturdays. It lasts for hours, doesn’t feel chalky and looks great. I also use it as a primer for other colors during the week. I’m also diggin’ this lip gloss from NYX I mentioned in my previous blog post, alone or over my lipstick. If I have time I dot a little of the gloss on top of the nude lipstick just for fun.

That’s it! Done! Boom! I’m all ready to go run errands, shop for groceries, do housework or just hang out with the hubs, without scaring everybody and looking like an old hag. The whole thing takes me a grand total of maybe ten minutes, depending on how distracted I am by viral videos on facebook…

  1. You’re beautiful Andy! I like Tarte products as well! I’m also on a never ending quest for an amazing mascara. My favorite go to is by Maballine – Rocket!

    1. Thanks Julie! I haven’t used Maybelline mascara in awhile. I used to swear by the pink tube!

    1. Thanks Tina! I haven’t tried the foundation yet. I may give it a try this winter. I just don’t care for heavy foundations in the summertime.
