Comfort During a Self Quarantine

I had the most difficult time coming up with an appropriate title for this blog post. These are strange times for sure. The governor of my state has shut down all k-12 schools until mid April, and so here I am, working from home. I’m learning how to do the self quarantine, and how to socially distance myself. Both of these are extremely challenging for me! I love my work friends, and actually look forward to seeing them every day. And you know I love to shop and get out and dine and do all the fun things that make life worth living. Today, I’m sharing just a few ways to survive this thing in comfort and style.

Things are changing so quickly. As of yesterday, the President requested that we not gather in groups of 10 or more. Restaurants are offering more takeout and drive-thru options as they shutter their doors to their indoor dining rooms. Grocery stores are struggling to keep up with demands as the “covidiots” of the world selfishly hoard everything in sight. And many of us are now finding ourselves working from home. Here’s a few things that I’m doing to keep it together, and to survive this situation in style.

EXERCISE

My gym is closed for the duration, which is super frustrating, because I’ve been more faithful about exercising this year. I’m extremely fortunate that I have a treadmill at home. So each morning, I’m vowing to hop on that sucker and do my usual three miles (or more). I’m vowing to get my 10,000 steps in each day. If you don’t have a treadmill at home, find something physical that will make you feel energized. It’s a proven fact that exercise is not only good for your overall health, but it’s also great for your mental health! Go outside (socially distancing yourself, of course) and go for a walk, stream an exercise video, or play some loud music and dance. And guess what? You’ll be wearing those leggings for actual exercise.

I got a cute pair of camo leggings that I showed you in this Stitch Fix Reveal. I’ve been wearing them quite a bit since the quarantine began. They’re perfect for the treadmill, or just working around the house. If I do happen to need to run to the grocery store for supplies, I’ll just throw on a sweater or tunic to cover things up a bit. I love them!

SKIN CARE

Now is a great time to try out some new skin care and hair care products! With spring right around the corner, and summer not far behind, just go ahead and work on getting your glow on by exfoliating and nourishing your skin, hair and lips. Here are a few new products I’ve recently discovered.

Buxom Lip Scrub

My lips seem to ALWAYS be chapped in the winter! I have stashes of lip ointment and chapstick and all sorts of creams and potions to try to make my lips feel smoother and less irritated. It seems counter intuitive that a lip scrub would help, but I just discovered that it really does. Buxom Power-full Lip Scrub is so easy to use, it’s practically fool proof. Infused with papaya seed oil, it gently scrubs away those little dry patches hanging around on your lips, giving your pout a smoother canvas for lip color and glosses. It’s amazing, and tastes great!

Pacifica Rosemary Detox Scalp Scrub

Oh my goodness! I’m in love with this product! Who knew your scalp could get clogged up with product? Not me! This lovely scented scrub contains sea salt, rosemary, jojoba and charcoal and helps to loosen and remove that build up of gunky hair product. I have been absolutely amazed by it. Available at Target or Ulta.

Easy “Almost Makeup”

I’ve just been slapping on this luminizing serum from L’oreal each morning and smearing cream blush on for a bit of color, some mascara and I’m done for the day. My Mama used to tell me to always refresh my lipstick before my husband came home from work, but sorry Mama, some days this is the best it’s gonna get!

Relax & Get Comfy

Luxuriating in a bubble bath is not part of my usual work week routine. But I think now is the perfect time for a calming nightly ritual. Put down the phone, step away from social media, pour a glass of wine and just chill. Escape into a book or listen to soothing music. We all need a little self care right now, to help us cope with the stress of what’s happening. It’s good for your mental health to push the reset button!

And finally, if you’re having trouble coming up with things to keep you busy while you’re homebound, here’s a quick list for you:

  • Do some spring cleaning – it’s a great time to do that cleaning you never have time for!
  • Organize a closet – Swap out your winter duds for your spring wardrobe and donate what you don’t want or need anymore.
  • Read a book – Download a book and escape the madness.
  • Scrapbook or Journal about Covid-19 and the quarantine – Document your experience, using photos, news articles and journal your thoughts about the whole experience.
  • Bake something – nothing like the delicious aroma of freshly baked cookies or breads to create a feeling of warmth and comfort. Just what we need right now!

I’m wishing you all good health and comfort, today and for always.

    1. It’s so hard. It’s much easier to just be lazy. But I definitely feel better when I do!

  1. Love this blog! Am working from home and doing as you said – getting up at normal time, getting on treadmill and trying to get 10,000 steps in each day. I am making myself shower, get dressed with makeup and jewelry and then hit my home office which is set up in our office detached from our home but just out the back door. It is quiet and I have everything set up from work – 2 monitors, my VeriDesk, my chair, even family pictures, a salt lamp and diffuser! haha I’m actually enjoying this working from home but like you, I miss my work friends and the social contact!
