Preparing for the Empty Nest (while you’re still young)

Preparing for the Empty Nest (while you’re still young)

This may surprise you, but this message isn’t for those moms about to send their babies off to college, or marriage, or out into the world to spread their wings and fly. It’s actually for you busy young mamas who are in the early years of their marriage. You know who you are. You might have spit up on your yoga pants, your hair is probably in a ponytail, you don’t remember the last time you wore makeup or even left the house for something other than grocery shopping. Or you’re running that perpetual taxi service to school and dance practice and ball practice and church and birthday parties. I was you, once upon a time, not too long ago, and I know you’re super busy and overwhelmed right now, but let me tell you, if you’re not preparing your marriage for the empty nest, you’re making a huge mistake. Do I have your attention? Great! Keep reading! Continue reading “Preparing for the Empty Nest (while you’re still young)”

Another Brisket Recipe

Another Brisket Recipe

I have a confession. Are you ready? I don’t cook anymore. Like hardly ever. Now don’t get me wrong. I love to cook! I love trying out new recipes! I have a library of cookbooks, I’ve pinned TONS of recipes on Pinterest (see them here). We love to watch Food TV and various cooking shows together. Our lifestyle as empty nesters just doesn’t call for big meals every night. However, the hubs and I almost always grill something every Sunday evening. And that’s super sweet for me, because that means I relegate the job of chef to him and he does most of the cooking! It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for the greater good.  Continue reading “Another Brisket Recipe”

Rose Gold Home Office Decor

Rose Gold Home Office Decor

My home office is a mess y’all! A very hot mess. I’ve slowly been sifting through Mom and Dad’s stuff. I have their files and tax returns and an old Underwood typewriter and cards and envelopes (Mom was a paper/cardstock hoarder). I still have an old oak Broyhill four-piece bookshelf and curio cabinet that we’ve had since 1995. Yeah. It’s in there too. Mainly because we were unable to sell it, and just moved it here with us. And there it is. I don’t even like it anymore, I just can’t figure out what to do with the stupid thing. Paint it? I don’t know. I have leftover scrapbook supplies in a craft cabinet. (I haven’t scrapbooked in years, since I do it on my phone now). Again. Just haven’t done anything with it. Seriously. Why exactly do we hang onto stuff? It’s just stuff. And the stuff overwhelms me. I’m so over it.  Continue reading “Rose Gold Home Office Decor”

Bloom Where You’re Planted

Bloom Where You’re Planted

Have you ever been uprooted? From family? Or your job? Or your home? Or your friends? I have. Almost too many times to count. Since our marriage 35 years ago the hubs and I have moved a grand total of 13, count ‘em 13 times. His job required transferring from town to town, and sometimes we couldn’t wait to get out of the place we were at, other times we left with tears in our eyes. I’ve learned a few things about being uprooted, and blooming where you’re planted, even in mid-life! Continue reading “Bloom Where You’re Planted”
