My mom was one of the most resilient women I’ve ever known. And I’m not just saying that because she’s my mom. She truly was remarkable. Diagnosed with narcolepsy shortly after giving birth to my twin brothers, (didn’t know she was having twins, by the way) she found ways to cope with the embarrassment of falling asleep at the most inopportune moments. She hated taking the medication prescribed to her, so she took scheduled naps throughout the day. Somehow she still managed a household, three kids and a husband. I’m pretty sure I would’ve crawled under the covers and stayed there.
