Dealing with Cloudy People!

Dealing with Cloudy People!

Someone tried to steal my sunshine today. I’m such a positive person, and Mama taught me some good southern manners, so I’m always a little shocked when someone doesn’t share my genuine love for treating people with kindness and respect. And this patronizing little storm cloud of condescension shocked me into silence. You know that emoji with the big eyes and mouth wide open? That was me. That little thunderstorm hovered over me for awhile, and the clouds threatened to well up and spill over as tears, until some friends helped me push the ‘reset’ button to start my day over. But y’all, it was really hard to not dwell on the hurt and rudeness thrown at me! But part of living a resilient mid-life is learning how to deal with all kinds of people, even cloudy people. I was trying to think how to title this post, based on what happened to me: “how to not be a rude person”, “hot to not act like a turd” (sorry mom) “how to handle negative people”… but I settled on this:  “How to deal with cloudy people (when they storm on your life”.  Continue reading “Dealing with Cloudy People!”

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is May 13 this year. Are you ready? I always looked forward to Mother’s Day as a chance to spoil my sweet Mama, giving her things she’d never give herself. One of my favorite things to pamper her with was her favorite cologne – Red Door by Elizabeth Arden. I usually picked up one of those nifty gift sets at Dillard’s. When I cleaned out her closet after she passed, I found one of those gift sets, still neatly wrapped in tissue and decorative gift bag. She never got around to using it. OR she was just too sweet to tell me to stop giving her Red Door! Not sure which, but that little bottle of Red Door is on my vanity, and whenever I’m missing her, I spritz some in the air, and walk through it, and it feels like a mom hug.  Continue reading “Mother’s Day Gift Guide”

Five Easy Ways to Keep a Journal to Tell Your Story

Five Easy Ways to Keep a Journal to Tell Your Story

Mine was yellow, with flowers and a little girl on the front cover, and had a lock. I lost the keys, (it came with two) but figured out how to lock and unlock it with a bobby pin. I poured my heart out in the pages of my little diary, griping about how mean my dad was, and the “hunks” and “foxes” I was apparently madly in love with. I found that diary later, and let me tell you, it was as embarrassing as it sounds! The act of keeping a diary served a purpose though, it was a safe space to pour out my heart, and daydream a little.

How to Behave On Social Media

How to Behave On Social Media

I joined the wild, wild world of Facebook around nine years ago, and boy has social media changed since then! We used to mainly pop in after work, or in the morning, and always on the computer, and usually just to share a status update and see how everyone was doing. It was a great way to connect, and reconnect with friends and relatives. It was a way to find old high school classmates, and college sorority sisters. We discovered that silly, time consuming farming game and played it for hours. (at least I did) Think about how different it is now. Most of us use our phones, hopping on, and checking in at all times of the day.  In addition to Facebook, we now have Pinterest, Instagram, and Snapchat to share images, ideas and yes, occasionally a status update. Social media – like it, love it, or hate it, is here to stay. And folks, I think we might need a little refresher course in do’s and don’ts for sharing and behaving on social media. Here’s my two cents worth: Continue reading “How to Behave On Social Media”
