Everyday Hair Essentials – from a 60+ Lady Who Knows What Works!

Iโ€™m sharing a few of my ride or die, everyday hair essentials with you today, because letโ€™s face it, hair care has changed a bit since the good old days of shampoo, creme rinse and Aqua Net hairspray! Iโ€™m embracing my 60+ year old hair, even with all the changes in texture and condition. So keep reading for a quick walk through of the products I use to help me feel confident and ready to take on the day in style.

My Everyday Hair Essentials – Cleansing: The Foundation of Great Hair

I like to wash my hair every other day, and Iโ€™ve even been known to go two days between washings to protect my highlighted hair. Iโ€™ve found that my scalp isnโ€™t as oily as it was back in the day so this works for me! My favorite dry shampoo is Perfect Hair Day from Living Proof. Just a little spray at the roots and Iโ€™m good to go! It adds nice texture for when I crimp my hair too (more on that further down)

I play around with cleansers and conditioners, but always find my way back to Redkenโ€™s All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner. This dynamic duo leaves my hair feeling cleansed, moisturized, conditioned and ready for styling. Bonus – my hair is so easy to comb out afterwards.

For maintaining my goldilocks I like to use a purple shampoo about once a week. Iโ€™ like Lโ€™orealโ€™s Ever Pure Purple shampoo and conditioner the best. Theyโ€™re reasonably priced and do a fabulous job!

Everyday Hair Essentials – Styling Prep & Protectives

My favorite shampoo and styling products

Want to know the secret to healthy hair that stays that way, no matter how hard you try to damage it with hair dryers, curling irons, and rubbing your hair with a towel really, really hard? Girl, use a heat protectant! Fun fact – I rarely used one until recently, I felt that my conditioning routine handled that job well enough. Welp. Turns out I was so very wrong!

So now I routinely use this blow dry spray from Kenra. I’ve found that it dramatically cuts down on the amount of time it takes me to blow-dry my hair, and it leaves my hair so soft and smooth. It’s a game changer yโ€™all!

For a bit of lift and volume, I spray Moroccan Oilโ€™s Root Boost on my wet hair, lifting sections of hair and spritzing as I go. Iโ€™ve used other products like this one, but none come even close to delivering the results I need in my life!

I follow up with  Moroccan Oilโ€™s Perfect Defense Heat Protectant, liberally sprayed to my freshly dried hair, let it sit there a minute, then comb it out before using my heat tools. Works like a charm!

Listen, weโ€™re tough on our crowns of glory, so products like these are essential, especially for mature or color treated hair.

My Everyday Essential Finishing Products: The Final Touch

Hear me out, Iโ€™m an older gal who prefers a little bit of volume to flat, wimpy styles, so Iโ€™m always nagging my (much) younger stylist to spray my newly cut and coifed ‘do! Give me all the oomph and the hairspray! Does she protest? No she does not, because she loves me! LOL. Wear what makes you happy, and style your hair so it makes you smile!

My favorite hairspray isย  Moroccan Oilโ€™s Luminous Extra Strong Hairspray. It smells amazing, and holds all day without feeling crunchy. I spray a little at the roots first, then follow up with a light spritz all over.ย

Essential Stylers: My Everyday Hair Tools

The hair style gear I use all the time!

Weโ€™ve come a long way from the heavyweight hairdryers of the past, havenโ€™t we? The hubs and I both joke about that first gray-blue Revlon version we both had back in the day. That thing was so clunky! I love the styling products from T3, and this hair dryer is the best Iโ€™ve ever used. Itโ€™s lightweight, quiet and gets the job done fast! Itโ€™s worth every penny.

My go-to curling iron is also from T3. My hair glides right onto it, and clamp keeps the strand nice and tight without leaving the dreaded clamp mark we all know and hate! I keep the heat fairly low. I use the curling iron to create beachy waves, or more pronounced curls, and to give my roots a little lift when it goes flat. Iโ€™ve used less expensive curling irons – in fact my travel curling iron was super cheap – and believe me, there is just no comparison. Again, worth every single penny!

  • Quick Tip: Keep your hairbrushes clean and free from hair with this handy-dandy cleaning tool. I use the little wire brush almost every day on my brushes and Iโ€™m amazed at the difference.ย

An Everyday Hair Essential I Just Discovered – And you should too!

And lastly a fun new find! I saw promoted posts all over my social media feeds from influencers using this amazing hair crimper, and I was so influenced to try it. Itโ€™s not expensive at all, so I figured why not? And girls, I havenโ€™t looked back. I love the results! I am careful to use that heat protectant I mentioned above, section off my hair, and just go to town. The secret is to just leave it alone when youโ€™re finished crimping it, finish with a spritz of hairspray and take on the day. Itโ€™s amazing! Buy my favorite new hair tool HERE.
