How to Style a Sequin Skirt

It’s the most festive time of the year! There’s just something about the holiday season that makes me want to pull out the stops and dress up in something sparkly! Give me all the sequins and glitter and crystals and diamonds and pearls! So of course, when I knew I had to find something for my hubs’ office party, I immediately went on the prowl for something shiny to wear.

I’ve been so inspired by my fellow bloggers who recently shared sequin skirts on our monthly collaboration Holiday Style. My friends Suzanne of Ask Suzanne Bell and Emma of Style Splash styled fabulous sequin skirts, and looked amazing in them. So, off I went to find a sequin skirt!

I found my skirt at JJill, and instantly loved the beautiful champagne color and comfortable fit. Now the next challenge. How to style it? I perused the internet, looking at blogs and instagram and pinterest for ideas.

HOW I STYLED MY SEQUIN SKIRT

Sequin Skirt with Chambray Shirt

I love styling my outfits in unconventional and surprising ways, so I thought I’d dress my skirt down a bit by adding denim to the mix. The chambray shirt adds a simple touch, and doesn’t work against the skirt. My co-star Daisy the Devil Dog wanted in on the action. (Actually she fell sound asleep and would not be moved! She rules this house. She’s 15, and has earned that right! LOL)

Sequin Skirt with Graphic Tee and Denim Jacket

I added a cute Christmas graphic tee, a denim jacket and my Superga sneakers I got in my Stitch Fix box last year. for a fun and lighthearted look. Honestly, this skirt is so comfy, I think I could actually pull this off! It’s a bit out of my comfort zone, but why not? Daisy actually woke up and took note of this look! Wonder what she thought?

Sequin Skirt with Fine Gauge Tee and Dark Denim Jacket

I swapped out the graphic tee for a fitted one, and changed out the relaxed denim jacket for a darker one I got from Stitch Fix awhile back. I added these neutral heels that match the tone of the skirt. Flats would work with this look too.

Sequin Skirt with Neutral Top and Long Cardigan

This look is a variation of my favorite Column Dressing technique, that’s perfect for styling a pear shape like me. The neutral column looks great under the long black cardigan, and the pale pink flats pull it all together. I could easily swap out the flats to dress it up a bit more. Again, I’ve used my favorite Kendra Scott neutral jewelry, so I don’t take the attention off that fabulous skirt!

Sequin Skirt with Dressy Black Blouse

I showed this look to my friend Dawn, and she said this was her favorite look. This instantly elevates the skirt to “cocktail party” level. The sleeves add a fun and flirty vibe to the outfit. Simple jewelry and I’m out the door and ready to party!

Sequin Skirt with Faux Fur Jacket

This cozy faux fur jacket is a fun and dressy way to stay cozy and warm. Why does it seem that they always crank the air conditioning at events? I always freeze out! I threw it on over the black blouse, but you could just as easily add it to any neutral top you wear with your skirt.

Sequin Skirt with Chunky Sweater

This look is my favorite. I found this beautiful sweater at Target. It’s their new Prologue line that I’m absolutely obsessed with – think perfect work wear with a modern twist. I initially wanted a fuzzy sweater, and found several at Target that would work, but since I already had this one, it was the winner! The neutral color is perfect for the skirt. I love the heels with this outfit; I think it makes the casual sweater more dressy. My neutral color Kendra Scott jewelry add just the right touch.
